ワークビザでは入れないところの方が多いようですが、会社によります。加入できるところを探してみては？
たとえば、Southern Cross の eligibility を読むとワークビザではダメですが、Kiwi Coverの加入条件は以下の通りで、大丈夫そうです。

You are eligible to apply for AIA Living Life Cover if:

You are 16 to 70 years of age; and
You are a New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident or you hold a current New Zealand work permit or a long term New Zealand business visa.
